Things and Considerations About Diving Cenotes in Mexico

When we talk about going scuba diving in Mexico most divers will picture in their minds a nice view of the Caribbean ocean and wonderful reef diving like Cozumel walls, or the incredible warm sandy beaches of Cancun.
But the reality is that there is way more to explore when we talk about diving in Mexico especially the Riviera Maya in the Yucatan Peninsula.
I am referring to the amazing cavern diving that it ha been becoming a number one attraction for serious divers who are seeking for exciting interaction with nature and the love of the exploration of the new frontiers.

Cenotes:

A cenote is a natural sinkhole, resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. Then the cenotes provide to the divers of an entrance to an underground river system. Many of these underground offer perfect diving conditions like crystal clear warm water, barley no current and incredible mineral formations like stalactites, stalagmites, and amazing columns.

CAVES/CAVERNS/CENOTES

There is a difference between a cave and a cavern

CAVE DIVING:

This is a form of technical diving that requires specialized overhead environment training because of the potential environmental hazards and complexity in navigation that requires more detail to plan and execute safe cave dives.

CAVERN DIVING:

Is the exploration of an overhead environment area by always keeping sight of the sunlight and not going away from this sunlight more than 200ft/60mt from it.

CENOTES DIVING:

This is a form of cavern diving that allows you to experience the excitement and thrill of overhead environment diving under the guidelines of minimum open water diver certification, professional cave guide and max 4 divers in a group.
Dives are about 35 minutes and no deeper than 12mt/40ft and sometimes 30mt/100ft in some special dives.

PRICE & QUALITY:

The Riviera Maya offers a wide range of many dive centers who offer reasonable prices to go Cenote Diving but one thing is for sure quality over price matters, so make sure you pick and choose the right type dive center who offers you good safe diving practices that ensures good quality.

Prices are in the range of 120-140
